He leaves behind a loving wife Mena; beloved sons Bryan (Toronto) and Clifford (HK); daughter-in-law Fiona; son-in-law Neil; and grandchild Kimberley. Leo Moraes 1938-2019

We are sad to announce that on Friday November 15th, 2019, Leo Moraes, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 81. Loving husband to Sheila for 49 years, father to Lorraine (Keith), Judy, and grandfather to Lucas.

Leo is fondly remembered by his siblings Hipo/Laura (deceased), James (deceased), George/Carmen, Paul (deceased)/Audrey. Leo will be sadly missed by his many nephews, nieces, friends and family.

Leo’s quiet demeanor and gentle nature touched all of those who knew and loved him. Leo was an avid traveller and camper. He loved spending time in his retired years cruising the seas and playing with his grandson, Lucas.

Beloved husband of Eva Luis; proud father of Judy/Paul Watson, Jacinta/Bernardo Lynch, the late Ian Patrick, and the late Ian Nicholas. Loving brother of the late Tony/Laura, Franky/the late Vicky, Queenie/Lino; affectionate uncle of nieces and nephews, and kindly regarded relative of in-laws and a host of first and second cousins as well as extended family.

Benny Fernandes

March 14, 1933 –  November 1, 2019

Formally of Uganda, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 86 during mass with his wife Bella at his side. He is survived by his beloved wife Bella of 57 years, loving father to Brian and Bevan. Grandfather to Vanessa. He is fondly remembered by his siblings the late Tony (Lira) Fernandes, the late Lina (the late Bruno) Fernandes, Annie (the late Diogo) Simoes and Peter(Ethel) Fernandes. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews who loved him. Benny’s welcoming smile and caring nature touched those around him. He generously gave his time to the Nativity of Our Lord Church and elementary school. Benny was one of the founding members of the Nativity of Our Lord Knights of Columbus Council in the year 2000. He loved travelling, sports and being in the company of friends and family.

Obituary

Passed away unexpectedly on October 9, 2019 at her home in Toronto.  Beloved daughter of Jules and Edith Fernandes. Cherished sister of Cheryl-Ann (Marc), Genevieve (Vish), Kevin, and Ryan.  Loving aunt to Noah, Lyla, Zoe and Yara.  She will be deeply missed by all extended family and friends.

Tracy was born and raised in Mississauga.  She graduated from Holy Name of Mary Secondary School following which she attended the University of Windsor.  A lover of yoga, food, and all things music, Tracy was known for her vocal talents.  Throughout her life, she performed at numerous talent shows, with different bands or could be found jamming with friends.  Tracy’s character was one of a kind – her love and kindness knew no limits, her compassion and courage knew no bounds.  Tracy will be forever loved and cherished by all.

“If music be the food of love, play on”.  Until we meet again, Tracy, play on.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul Rest in Peace.

May 23, 2019 Toronto, RODRIGUES, Manuel Francisco (ex-Tanga, Moshi, Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania) passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side at the age of 91.

Manuel was the loving husband of Melita Rodrigues and father to Randolph, Natalie/Jason Fernandes, John/Sarah and his adorable grandchildren, Alyssia Fernandes, Lucia/Gabriel Rodrigues. 

 Manuel will be missed by his devoted in-laws late Joe/Ann de Souza (England), Sylvester/Loretta de Souza and Julio de Souza (Toronto). He will be missed by his nephews, Neil/Stephen and niece, Arlette.

 Manuel will be fondly remembered for his love of music as an excellent violinist and his caring ways reaching out to play at weddings, socials  and dances.

Lucy was born on December 20, 1929, to David and Hortensia D’Cruz. Lucy passed away peacefully at the Erin Mills Lodge on April 8, 2019, at the age of 89. Beloved wife of Ted, mother of Lorna (Ashley), Gerard (Elaine), Audry, Yvonne (Desmond), and Bernard (Karena). Grandmother of Andrea (David), Mark (Cassandra), Rachel (Stephen), Adam (Alanna), Amanda (Neil), Matthew, Jeremy, Evan, Tyler, Serena, Ian, Sarah, Andrew. Great-Grandmother to Logan, Caleb, and Damon. She was predeceased by her siblings Joe (Tina), Doris (Ladis), and Mabel (Neves).

A very strong and determined woman, she and Ted moved to Canada from Nairobi, Kenya and raised their 5 children ensuring that all were well-educated. Lucy was a teacher who painted, loved music and sang at many weddings and in choirs. Her love of music and learning was passed down to her children and grandchildren ensuring her legacy.

Born in Nakuru, Kenya, on March 5, 1937, to the late John and Angela Lobo, she was the loving wife of Almir D’Cunha for 53 years, proud mother of Mervyn/Elizabeth and Audrey/Dave Partington, doting grandmother of Brian, loving sister of the late Melissa/Bruno Lopes and Gwen/Robert Pereira, and affectionate aunt of her nephews, nieces and grandnieces. Maureen will be remembered for her warm and cheerful nature. She welcomed people from all walks of life to her home and showered everyone with love and bear hugs. Rest in peace dear Maureen.

March 30, 2019 Mississauga –Fernandes, Antonio Gaspar (ex-Uganda), passed away peacefully at the age of 90 surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife Lira of 65 years, loving father to Levita/Alan Pires and Louella/Christopher Pires.  Cherished grandfather to Lisa/Kip Macartney, Lauren, Rochelle and Scott, and great grandfather to Faheem. He leaves behind his brothers Benny/Bella, Peter/Theresa and sisters – late Lina/late Bruno Fernandes, Annie/late Diogo Simoes.

He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews who loved him.

Tony’s generous spirit was evident in everything including his volunteer work at  the Trillium Healing Heart and Toronto General Hospital programs. He loved living life, good fun and enjoyed the company of his many friends and family.

Beloved Brother of Theresa (Walter), Rose (late Dominic), Romeo (Connie), Xavier (Ida); predeceased by his brother Joseph (Natalie).John will be fondly remembered by his many nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, John was a proud ex-student of Dr. Ribeiro Goan school– class of ’57 . He was well known for his active involvement in preserving the archives of the Goan Community in Toronto, and among many other projects and groups, for promoting the Konkani Rosary in video with the help of Goans from across Canada. He was a founding member of 55PGA.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of our dynamic and charismatic Joe, peacefully at his home in Atlanta, Georgia, USA with the family by his side. Survived by his loving wife Sarah; devoted sons Dr. Adam (partner Dr. Elizabeth Rabold), Eric, Shawn; caring parents late Lawrence & Emilia; proud siblings Cellie (Tony) Gonsalves, late Cassy (Olive), Leo (Irene); adoring in-laws, Alaric & Rosalind Pires, Arlene (late Brian) D’Silva, Austin (Angela), Jackie (Mo) Gujarati, Jude (Paulina) and Gavin; doting nephews & nieces Mark (Ayesha), Charmaine (Wendell), Melissa, Andrea, Alyssa, Lionel, Brendon, Rebecca, Andrew, Alanna, Kristin, Aaron, and Michael.

A native of Goa, India, Joe achieved his undergraduate degree at the University of Essex (UK), and obtained a Ph.D. in Biochemical Pharmacology at the University of London (UK). Joe was known among his friends and colleagues for the warmth and generosity of his personality, as a competitive sportsman, his intellectual sophistication, and successful business career. May his legacy continue in the many lives he touched and his soul rest in eternal peace.

It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph Aloysius Lobo (affectionately known as Al) announces his passing, on Monday October 29, 2018, at the age of 80 years. Al will be lovingly remembered by his wife Juanita (Nita) and his children, Charmaine (Ted), and Derek. Al will also be fondly remembered by his two grandchildren, Rachael and Jessica and by his sisters, Vicky and Hedy. He was predeceased by his late brother Janu.

A Funeral Service in memory of Al will be held on Friday, Nov. 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds St. Oakville, Ont. L6J 3J9.
Reception to follow. Details will be announced at the service.

Fenny passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at the age of 93. Loving husband of Adelaide for 62 years. Devoted father of Gina, Stanley and Kamla (Luke). Cherished grandfather of Wendel (Erica), Ruth and late Eric, and great-grandfather of Felix and Leo. Beloved brother of Yolanda and Alves and predeceased by Gangi and Bossuet. Neru Sebastian Rodrigues

Neru Sebastian Rodrigues, aged 92, loving husband of Philomena Gomes-Rodrigues passed away peacefully on May 25th, 2018 in hospital, Montreal, Quebec. He will be sadly missed by his step-children Lavina, Maimie (Jeffrey), Fredrick (Laurie), Noeleen. Lovingly known as “Papa Neru”, to his step-grandchildren Mathieu, Darius, Vanessa, Chandler, Madison & Alexia, Nabeela, Zaleeya, Aleeana, and Zameer, he will be missed.  He is survived by brothers Mario (Cecilia), Albert (Rosemary), Sister in laws Rose/late Martin, Linda/late Custodio.  He leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins along with a wonderful network of long-time friends, to remember him.

Neru Rodrigues was the past president of the Kampala Goan Institute, Quebec Goan Association, and an involved community leader. He loved playing bridge and socializing with friends, old and new.  He retired in 1973, from the Uganda Government Services and in 1988 from the South-Central Protestant School Board of Montreal.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 29th, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Good Shepard Catholic Church. 7900 Naples, Brossard QC.  At his request, no visitation will be held.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the local SPCA in honor of Neru Rodrigues.
